A study from the Department of Molecular Biology, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA 02114, USA; Diabetes Unit, Medical Services, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA 02114, USA; Department of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA 02115, USA; European Molecular Biology Laboratory, Mouse Biology Unit, 00015-Monterotondo, Italy; Department of Pharmacology, University of Oxford, Oxford OX1 3QT, UK etc. shows that “IGF2BP2/IMP2-Deficient Mice Resist Obesity through Enhanced Translation of Ucp1 mRNA and Other mRNAs Encoding Mitochondrial Proteins.” This study was published in the 7 Apr 2015 issue of the journal “Cell Metabolism” [the number 1 journal in field of Metabolism with an I.F of 16.747] by Prof. Joseph Avruch, Ning Dai, and Others.
On the foundation of this interesting finding, Dr L Boominathan PhD, Director-cum-chief Scientist of GBMD, reports that: Sunlight exposure not only ameliorates T2DM but also extends lifespan: Cholecalciferol increases UCP protein expression, energy expenditure, glucose tolerance, insulin sensitivity and extends lifespan via down regulation of its target gene.
Significance: This study suggests, for the first time, that Cholecalciferol (1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D), by increasing the expression of its target gene, it may decrease diet-induced obesity, increase UCP protein expression, energy expenditure, cold tolerance, glucose tolerance, insulin sensitivity and extend lifespan. Thus, pharmacological formulations encompassing “Cholecalciferol or its analogues” may be used to treat T2DM, promote lean mass, increase cold exposure tolerance and extend the life span of an individual. Given that exposure to Sunlight increases the levels of 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D, one may expose to the optimal level of sunlight to decrease diet-induced obesity, energy expenditure, cold tolerance, glucose tolerance, insulin sensitivity and extend lifespan.
