Significance:
Cholecalciferol, by increasing the expression of its target genes, it may increase the expression of tumor suppressor Ink4a. Thereby, it may inhibit the migration and invasion of metastatic cancer cells. Thus, pharmacological formulations encompassing ” Cholecalciferol or its analogues” may be used to inhibit the progression of invasive tumors.
Given that exposure to Sunlight (1) increases the levels of 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D; and (2) increases the expression of tumor suppressor INK4a, one may expose to the optimal level of sunlight to stall metastatic cancer progression. Thus, this study suggests a vitamin-based therapy for metastatic human tumors.
