Significance: This study suggests a vitamin-based Anti-cancer stem cell/metastasis therapy. 1α, 25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (Calcitriol), by increasing the expression of its target genes, it may decrease the expression of cancer stem-cell enriched and reprogramming protein Oct4. Thereby, it may inhibit migration and invasion of metastatic cancer cells. Thus, pharmacological formulations encompassing ” Calcitriol or its analogues” may be used to inhibit the progression of invasive tumors. Given that exposure to Sunlight increases the levels of 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D,  one may expose to the optimal level of sunlight to stall metastasis-associated cancer stem cell proliferation.

Undisclosed information: How Calcitriol  decreases the expression of Oct4
