A study from the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, UBC James Hogg Research Centre, Institute for Heart + Lung Health, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada has reported a new transcriptional role for MMP-12 in antiviral immunity.

This study was published in the 28 April 2014 Nature Medicine by Christopher M Overall and  David J Marchant from UBC James Hogg Research Centre, Institute for Heart + Lung Health, University of British Columbia, British Columbia, Canada

On the foundation of this interesting finding, Dr L Boominathan, Director-cum-chief Scientist of GBMD, reports here that: Therapeutic Insights into augmenting Antiviral responses: Withaferin A increases MMP12 and Interferon-α (IFN-α) levels via up regulation of its target gene
