Significance: Increased accumulation of triglycerides in muscles results in T2DM. Earlier studies have shown that LKB1 functions through AMPK1 to control lipid accumulation in muscles. This study suggests, for the first time, that ARF, by increasing the expression of LKB1, it may decrease lipid deposition in muscles. Together, this study suggests that pharmacological formulations encompassing “ARF activators” may be used to treat pathological situations associated with lipid accumulation in muscles, including T2DM.
