[3] Graduate School of Medical Life Science, Yokohama City University, Kanagawa, Japan. [4] PRESTO, Japan Science and Technology Agency, Saitama, Japan  shows that “The epigenetic regulator Uhrf1 facilitates the proliferation and maturation of colonic regulatory T cells”

This study was published in the Apr 28 2014 Nature Immunology (One of the top journal in Immunology with an IF of  of  26.199) by Prof. Dr Koji HaseYuuki Obata and others from the Division of Mucosal Barriology, International Research and Development Center for Mucosal Vaccines, The Institute of Medical Science, The University of Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan

On the foundation of this interesting finding, Dr L Boominathan PhD, Director-cum-chief Scientist of GBMD, reports that: Unearthing the molecular mechanisms that govern the Maintenance of Gut immunological homeostasis: SPOP promotes the maturation of colonic regulatory T cells via down regulation of its target geneThis study suggests that SPOP, by increasing the expression of DNA-methylation adaptor UHRF1 through its target gene, it augments the proliferation of colonic regulatory T cells. Thereby, it increases the maturation and functioning of colonic regulatory T cells. Together, this study suggests that “SPOP activators may find their use in clinic in the treatment of severe colitis
