A study from the Department of Molecular Biology, Princeton University, Princeton, New Jersey 08544, USA shows that “ΔNp63 promotes stem cell activity in mammary gland development and basal-like breast cancer by enhancing Fzd7 expression and Wnt signalling.”
This study was published in the September issue of 2014 Nature Cell Biology (I.F: 20.085) by Dr. Kang Y, Rumela Chakrabarti [I.F > 20.058] and others from the Princeton University, New Jersey 08544, USA
On the foundation of this interesting finding, Dr L Boominathan, Director-cum-chief Scientist of GBMD, reports here that: Vitamin-based Anti-cancer Stem cell therapeutics: Vitamin-D3 inhibits mammary cancer stem cell proliferation via down regulation of Wnt receptor FZD7. This study may suggest that Vitamin-D3, by down regulating its target gene, it may inhibit the Wnt pathway. Together, this study suggests that pharmacological formulations encompassing “Vitamin-D3 or its analogues” can be used to inhibit tumor initiating mammary cancer cells.
