Significance: This study suggests, for the first time, that 1,25 dihydroxyvitamin D3 may extend the lifespan of an individual by suppressing ADCY5/AC5 expression. It is known for years that sunlight boosts the production of 1,25 dihydroxyvitamin D3, suggesting that exposing one to the optimal level of sunlight may increase longevity. Thus, pharmacological formulations encompassing “1,25 dihydroxyvitamin D3 or its analogues” may be used to extend the lifespan of an an individual.
Undisclosed information: How 1,25 dihydroxyvitamin D-3 suppresses the expression of adenylate cyclase 5 (ADCY5/AC5)
