A study from the Department of Pharmacology, The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, Texas 75390, USA has reported that “miR-34a blocks osteoporosis and bone metastasis by inhibiting osteoclastogenesis and Tgif2.”
This study was published in the June 25, 2014 Nature [I.F >42] by Prof. Wan Y, Krzeszinski and others from the Department of Pharmacology, The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, Texas 75390, USA.
On the foundation of this interesting finding, Dr L Boominathan, Director-cum-chief Scientist of GBMD, reports here that: Natural product therapy for Bone disorders: Honokiol, found in the cones, bark, and leaves of Magnolia grandiflora, inhibits osteoporosis and bone metastasis via up regulation of its target gene. Furthermore, Honokiol, by up regulating its target gene, it may suppress the expression of Tgif2. Together, this study suggests that pharmacological formulations encompassing “Honokiol or its analogues” can be used to inhibit osteoporosis and bone metastasis.
