Significance: This study suggests a natural product-based life extension therapy. Carnosic acid (CA), by decreasing the expression of Ribosomal protein S6 kinase 1 (p70S6 Kinase), it may promote (1) resistance to bone, immune, and motor dysfunction; and (2) insulin sensitivity. Of relevance, we have shown earlier that Carnosic acid may: (1) enhance life span of an individual by suppressing the expression of mTOR; and (2) promote cardiac function after myocardial infarction via up regulation of PNUTS.
Carnosic acid promotes longevity via down regulation of p70S6K
Thus, pharmacological formulations encompassing “Carnosic acid (CA) or its analogue or an active compound isolated from Rosemary extract“ can be used to extend the lifespan of an individual.
