A recent study from the Institute of Healthy Ageing, Centre for Diabetes and Endocrinology, Department of Medicine, University College London, London WC1E 6JJ, UK shows that “Ribosomal protein S6 kinase 1 signaling regulates mammalian life span.” This study was published in the 2 October 2009 issue of the Journal “Science” (I.F: 31.477 ) by Prof Dominic J. Withers, Dr. Selman C and others.
On the foundation of this interesting finding, Dr L Boominathan PhD, Director-cum-chief Scientist of GBMD, reports, for the first time, that: Natural product Life-extension therapy: Isorhapontigenin, found in Aiphanes aculeata, Norway spruce (Picea abies), and the Sitka spruce (Picea sitchensis), inhibits the expression of Ribosomal protein S6 kinase 1 (p70S6 Kinase) and extends mammalian life span
Idea Proposed/Formulated by: Dr L Boominathan Ph.D.
I had shown earlier that Isorhapontigenin may:(1) prolong mammalian life span via down-regulation of angiotensin II type I receptor; (2) promote reprogramming of adult pancreatic ductal cells into α, δ, and β cells via up-regulation of Ngn3; and (3) and inhibit the development of pulmonary arterial hypertension via down-regulation of its target gene Notch3.

Isorhapontigenin, isolated from Aiphanes Aculeata, Norway/Sitka Spruce , among others, extends mammalian lifespan via down-regulation of p70S6 Kinase
Significance: This study suggests a natural product-based life extension therapy. Isorhapontigenin, by increasing the
expression of its target gene, it may suppress Ribosomal protein S6 kinase 1 (p70S6 Kinase) expression. Thereby, it may promote: (1) resistance to bone, immune, and motor dysfunction; (2) insulin sensitivity; and (3) longevity.
Thus, pharmacological formulations encompassing “Isorhapontigenin or its analogs“ can be used to extend the lifespan of an individual.
