Significance:  Prolonged physical/mental/emotional/environmental stress has been shown to induce stress responsive protein ACTH. This in turn can induce its downstream target genes.  This study suggests, for the first time, that ACTH, by decreasing the expression of its target gene, it may decrease the expression of  longevity-associated gene telomerase.  This data suggests that “ACTH inhibitors may be used to (1) decelerate ageing process; and (2)  increase the life expectancy of individual.
