A number of studies suggest that the mTOR inhibitor Sirolimus extends life span. However, how Sirolimus increases longevity remains unclear. Identifying the mechanism by which Sirolimus extends life span is of paramount importance in longevity research. Here, GBMD Founder Director-cum-Chief-Scientist Dr L Boominathan PhD reports that Sirolimus extends lifespan by inducing the expression of Autophagy-related gene ATG5. Furthermore, Dr Boominathan identifies the molecular mechanism through which Sirolimus extends life span.
