A recent study from Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Center for Stem Cell Biology, NYU School of Medicine, 550 First Avenue, New York, USA has reported the role of Notch-regulated lncRNA LUNARI in Acute Leukemia. This study was published in the July 31  2014 Cell (The number 1 journal in basic biology) by Prof  Iannis Aifantis, Thomas Trimarchi and others.

On the foundation of this interesting finding, Dr L Boominathan PhD, Director-cum-chief Scientist of GBMD, reports that: Natural product-based therapy for Human Leukemia:  Cirsilioll (3′,4′,5-trihydroxy-6,7-dimethoxyflavone), a flavone isolated from Achillea fragrantissima, inhibits acute leukemia via down regulation of Notch-regulated pro-oncogenic lncRNA LUNAR1. This study suggests that  Cirsiliol, by decreasing the expression of  Notch-1 and lncRNA LUNAR1, it may inhibit acute leukemia. Together, this study suggests that pharmacological formulations encompassing “Cirsiliol or its analogues” may be used to treat patients suffering from leukemia.
