Citation: Boominathan, Natural product-based therapy for Metastatic tumors: EF24, the curcumin analogue, suppresses the expression of PD-1, a suppressor of activation of T-cells, and activates the immune system via down regulation of its target gene, 20/February/2015, 9.10 am, Genome-2-Bio-Medicine Discovery center (GBMD), http://genomediscovery.org
Significance: Curcumin is the major component of turmeric powder. Curcumin has been shown to possess a number of medicinal properties, including anti-cancer property. This study suggests that the curcumin analogue EF24, by suppressing the expression of its target gene, it may decrease the expression of PD-1. Thereby, it may activate the immune system that inhibits tumor development. Thus, pharmacological formulations encompassing “EF24 or its analogues“ may be used to inhibit the progression of tumors.
