Citation: Boominathan, L. Treating Alzhemer’s disease with an NIDDM drug: Metformin, the widely used drug in the treatment of T2DM, decreases Tau expression via up regulation of its target gene, 19/October/2014, 21.54, Genome-2-Bio-Medicine Discovery center (GBMD), http://genomediscovery.org
Significance: It has been shown that decreasing the expression of Tau protein alleviates the pathogenic symptoms-associated with Alzheimer’s disease. This study suggests, for the first time, that Metformin decreases the expression of Tau protein. Thus, pharmacological formulations encompassing “Metformin or its analogues” can be used to treat patients suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and tauopathies.
