Significance:

Tumor suppressor PTEN is the second most mutated gene in human cancer.  This study suggests, for the first time, that (IFN)-α, by suppressing the expression of its target gene, it may increase the expression of PTENThus, pharmacological formulations encompassing “(IFN)-α or its activators” may be used to used to treat human cancers that retain wild-type PTEN.

Undisclosed information: How (IFN)-α increases the expression of PTEN.
