Idea Proposed/Formulated by: Dr L Boominathan PhD, Director-cum-chief Scientist of GBMD.

From research findings to Therapeutic opportunity: This study suggests, for the first time, that Maritoclax (Marinopyrorle A), by suppressing the expression of its target gene p38-α, it can: a) promote cardiomyocyte proliferation & regeneration and function; and b) augment stress resistance against hypoxic stress.

Figure 1. Mechanistic insights into how Maritoclax (Marinopyrorle A) protects against cardiac dysfunction. Maritoclax , by regulating the expression of its target gene, it inhibits the expression of p38alpha. Thereby, it increases NAD+ levels and promotes cardiomyocytes proliferation/surivival/regeneration.

Figure 2. Maritoclax function as a cardioprotective agent through down regulation of p38alpha and up regulation of NAD+ levels.

Thus, pharmacological formulations encompassing “Maritoclax (Marinopyrorle A) or its analogues, either alone or in combination with other drugs” can be used to promote cardiomyocyte proliferation & regeneration; and protect against cardiac dysfunction.
