From Research Findings to Therapeutic Opportunity:
This study suggests, for the first time, Arecoline, by decreasing the expression of its target gene, it may : (1) increase the expression of Sox2; (2) increase the ability of Sox2 to recognize bacterial DNA in cytoplasm; and (3) promote innate immunity against bacterial infection.

Together, pharmacological formulations encompassing “Arecoline or its analogues or Arecoline in combination with other drugs” may be used to (1) enhance innate immunity against bacterial infection; and (2) promote bacterial resistance (figs. 1-2).
