What they say:

A study from the Institute of Healthy Ageing, Centre for Diabetes and Endocrinology, Department of Medicine, University College London, London WC1E 6JJ, UK shows that “Ribosomal protein S6 kinase 1 signaling regulates mammalian life span.” This study was published in the 2 October 2009 issue of the Journal “Science” (I.F: 31.477 ) by Prof Dominic J. Withers, Dr. Selman C and others.

What we say

On the foundation of this interesting finding, Dr L Boominathan PhD, Director-cum-chief Scientist of GBMDreports, for the first time, that: Natural product-derived Life-extension therapy: Ampelopsin [AMP; also called dihydromyricetin (DHM)], a flavonoid mainly found in Ampelopsis grossedentata (commonly known as Mayeam), inhibits the expression of Ribosomal protein S6 kinase 1 (p70S6 Kinase) and extends mammalian life span

Research findings to Therapeutic opportunity:

Ampelopsin [AMP], by  increasing  the expression of its target gene, it may suppress Ribosomal protein S6 kinase 1 (p70S6 Kinase) expression. Thereby, it may promote: (1) resistance to bone, immune, and motor dysfunction; (2) insulin sensitivity; and (3) longevity (fig. 1).

Figure 1. Mechanistic insight into how Ampelopsin [AMP] may extend lifespan. Ampelopsin [AMP] may promote longevity by suppressing the expression of p70 S6 kInase

Thus, pharmacological formulations encompassing Ampelopsin [AMP] or its analogs either alone or in combination with any of the known longevity-promoting compound(s) may be used to extend the lifespan of an individual (figs. 1-2).

Figure 2. Ampelopsis Grossedentata. The Ampelopsis Grossedentata (Mayeam) constituent Ampelopsin (AMP) functions as a longevity promoting agent. AMP can be isolated from”Mayeam” . The leaves and stems of Mayeam are used to make a herbal tea generally known as Tujia God/heaven tea. The average lifespan of those who consume this tea regularly is 89 years; and this could perhaps be attributed to its insulin- secreting and neuroprotective property.
