From Significance of the study to Public health relevance:
Given that: (1) in any given year, nearly 20-30% of people are affected by Allergic Rhinitis; (2) most of the medications available today for allergic rhinitis treats only the symptoms, and provide temporary relief; (3) corticosteroid therapy for allergic rhinitis may have its own side effects; (4) the global economic cost spent in the treatment of allergic rhinitis is enormous, there is an urgent need to find: (i) a way to cure allergic rhinitis, without adverse side effects; (ii) a cheaper alternative to the existing expensive medications; (iii) a side-effect-free natural product-based drug; and (iv) a way to cure, not just treat, allergic rhinitis.
From Research findings to Therapeutic opportunity:
This study suggests, for the first time, a natural product based therapy for Allergic Rhinitis. Theabrownin (TB), by increasing the expression of its target genes, it may: (1) inhibit GM-CSF levels; (2) decrease IL13Rα1 expression; (3) suppress eotaxin expression; and (4) inhibit mucus production (fig 1).

Thus, pharmacological formulations encompassing “Theabrownin (TB) or its analogues either alone or in combination with other drugs” may be used to control allergic rhinitis.
