A recent study from the Children’s Research Institute, Departments of Pediatrics and Internal Medicine, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, TX 75390, USA shows that “Lin28b Is Sufficient to Drive Liver Cancer and Necessary for Its Maintenance in Murine Models.” This study was published in the August 11 2014 Cancer Cell (No.1 journal in basic cancer biology with an I.F of ~27.238) by Prof Zhu H, Nguyen LH, and others.
On the foundation of this interesting finding, Dr L Boominathan PhD, Director-cum-chief Scientist of GBMD, reports that: Natural product therapy for Hepatocelluar Carcinoma: Olea europaea leaf extract inhibits the progression of liver cancer via down-regulation of Lin28 and Igf2bp3.
Significance:
Olea europaea leaf extract, by increasing the expression of its target gene, it may decrease the expression of Lin-28 and Igf2bp3; and increase the expression of tumor suppressor MiRNA Let-7.

Olive tree branch with green olives. Olea europaea leaf extract inhibits the progression of hepatocellular carcinoma via down regualtion of Lin-28 and Igf2bp3
Thereby, it may: (1) decrease the expression of oncoproteins that function downstream of tumor suppressor MiRNA Let-7; and (2) decrease tumor burden and prolong survival. Together, this study suggests that pharmacological formulations encompassing “Olea europaea leaf extract or an active compound isolated from it” may be used to inhibit the progression of hepatocellular carcinoma.
