On the foundation of this interesting finding, Dr L Boominathan PhD, Director-cum-chief Scientist of GBMD, reports, for the first time, that: Estradiol functions as a longevity promoter: Estradiol, a female steroid hormone, inhibits the expression of Ribosomal protein S6 kinase 1 (p70S6 Kinase) and extends mammalian lifespan, via upregulation of its target gene
Research findings to Therapeutic opportunity:
Estradiol(E2), a steroid female sex hormone, has also been shown to aid in the treatment of a number of other gynecological conditions. This study suggests, for the first time, that Estradiol(E2), by increasing the expression of its target gene, it may suppress ribosomal protein S6 kinase 1 (p70S6 Kinase) expression. Thereby, it may promote (1) resistance to the bone, immune, and motor dysfunction; (2) insulin sensitivity; and (3) longevity (fig. 1).

Thus, pharmacological formulations encompassing “Estradiol or its analogs, either alone or in combination with any of the known longevity-promoting compound(s),“ may be used to extend the lifespan of an individual (fig. 2).
Given the mechanistic basis of how Estradiol may function as a longevity-promoting agent, obstetricians and gynecologists and general practitioners may consider: encouraging their needy patients(post-menopausal women) to take Estradiol or beginning a clinical trial.
