Glenn Laboratories for the Biological Mechanisms of Aging Harvard Medical School, Boston,USA; and Department of Pharmacology, School of Medicine, The University of New South Wales, Australia shows that Sirtuin-2 induces the checkpoint kinase BubR1 to increase lifespan. This study suggests a natural product-based life extension therapy. Areca nut extract or Arecoline, by increasing the expression of its target gene, it may increase the expression of BuBR1. Thereby, it may: (1) delay diseases of aging; (2) slow down aging; and (3) prolong median life span. Thus, pharmacological formulations encompassing“Areca nut extract or Arecoline or its analogues or Arecoline plus any of the known longevity promoting drug“ may be used to extend the lifespan of an individual.
