A study from the Department of Molecular Biology, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA 02114, USA; Diabetes Unit, Medical Services, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA 02114, USA; Department of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA 02115, USA; European Molecular Biology Laboratory, Mouse Biology Unit, 00015-Monterotondo, Italy; and Department of Pharmacology, University of Oxford, Oxford OX1 3QT, UK etc. shows that “IGF2BP2/IMP2-Deficient Mice Resist Obesity through Enhanced Translation of Ucp1 mRNA and Other mRNAs Encoding Mitochondrial Proteins.” This study was published in the 7 Apr 2015 issue of the journal “Cell Metabolism” [the number 1 journal in field of Metabolism with an I.F of 16.747] by Prof. Joseph Avruch, Ning Dai, and others.
On the foundation of this interesting finding, Dr L Boominathan PhD, Director-cum-chief Scientist of GBMD, reports that: Natural product-based therapy for T2DM & lifespan extension: Garlic extract increases UCP protein expression, energy expenditure, glucose tolerance, insulin sensitivity, cold exposure tolerance and extends lifespan via up regulation of its target gene.
Significance: This study suggests, for the first time, that Garlic extract, by increasing the expression of its target gene, it may (1) decrease diet-induced obesity; (2) increase UCP protein expression;(3) increase energy expenditure; (4) increase cold tolerance; (5) increase glucose tolerance; (6) increase insulin sensitivity; and (7) extend lifespan. Thus, Garlic extract may ameliorate T2DM, promote lean mass, increase tolerance to cold exposure, and extend life span of an individual.
Undisclosed information: How Garlic extract increases UCP protein expression, energy expenditure, glucose tolerance, insulin sensitivity and promotes longer lifespan
